anyone recognize this lap steel? other than the serial number on the back of the headstock, there is no indication of what this is. enclosed is a picture of the guitar as well as the back of the headstock.

in a way, it looks like a ton of others but the markings on the fretboard may be the identifying factor.

thanks,
mikeB

Judging by the serial number and the string-through pickup, it's a 1961 Valco/Supro

The fretboard graphics look like what Tonemaster used.

thanks to steve and tom. wouldn't there have been some sort of logo on the headstock? well, i guess it could have been taken off or have fallen off.

Looks just like the first guitar I had. On my unit the headstock said "Silvertone". It came from Sears & Roebuck.

I have been looking for one since I got back into steel guitar. If you decide on selling it, drop me a note. Smile

It's a Tonemaster. I had one in blonde MOTS with legs. Good guitar.

thanks alan. i didn't think of oahu tonemaster as i usually see the ones with the shiny metal pickup cover with the musical signature on it. i'm still fairly new to lap steels.
thanks again,
mikeB

It's not a Oahu Tonemaster but just a Tonemaster. Two different animals. There's my Tonemaster.

I have seen Nationals, Supros, Oahus, and others that look exactly like the lap steel in first picture. Without the logo, there is no way to tell what brand it is. As you probably know, Valco would brand guitars and amps for any company that placed a certain minimum order. Same guitar/amp, different logo.

The decal that was used on some of those has likely deteriorated & fell off..
