The following Eulogy was not read at Scotty's viewing on Saturday because most of the out of towners had already left. Here it is for everybody.....
Eulogy
DeWitt A. Scott, Sr., the Ambassador to the Steel Guitar. Almost everybody outside of the Scott family knew him as Scotty. His love of the Steel Guitar started when he was in college. He heard that sound and was immediately hooked. From that moment on he was dedicated to the Steel Guitar.
He started Scotty’s Music in the basement of our house in 1963, giving lessons and selling used guitars. I can remember Dale Wagner in the basement with 5 or 6 local people showing up to hopefully learn something. He rented the American Legion Hall down the street and probably 25-30 people came to hear Maurice Anderson play. It grew and grew until it became the Steel Guitar Convention and then the International Steel Guitar Convention, going from the Chase Park Plaza to the Millennium and finally the Airport Marriott. Thousands of fans came to hear the best of the best and they weren’t disappointed.
Inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in 1992, I can think of no one who deserved it more. Players are one thing, but Scotty’s contribution to the Steel Guitar was something unique. His promotion is unequaled. From his creation of the International Steel Guitar Convention dozens of other shows have cropped up around the world. He gave the world what they didn’t even know they wanted. The Steel Guitar.
His legacy will live on as long as there are players, fans and shows for them to attend. He started the tradition of Steel Guitar shows and he will always be remembered for that.

I am thankful that I met and was able to work with Scotty for some 37 years.
Thankfully I was able to make the trip to St Louis to see And pay my respects to Scotty one last time.
Thank you to the Scott family for sharing Scotty with the world!

I am guttered to read this!! I met Scotty at the Wembley festival many years ago in U.K. I bought an L.P. he was selling. It was through one of Scotty's magazines that I read an article on converting a S-12 ex E9th steel to become a universal. The writer was soon to become a friend and enabled me and my wife to travel out to the States many times. Scotty was The Big "E's" manager, and every time Buddy played in U.K. Scotty was there. Like many have said, there will never be another Scotty. R.I.P.Scotty.

| I am fortunate enough to go back many years to when he operated in the basement. Bought my first used Fender 400 D 9th tuning from him in 1969. As many have stated - those shoes will not be filled--one of a kind indeed !! |

Thank you Sandra. Paul and I were not able to attend the viewing and pay our respects, but never doubt that we were aware of the great man and contribution Scotty gave the Steel Guitar Industry. We appreciate all he has done for the world of music. We were blessed for Paul to be added to Scotty's great show.
Thank you for the opportunity to not only get to know Scotty and Mary better, but the family as well.
We think of all of you often and add our sincere sympathy for the Scott Family.
