Last night I played a gig for the first time using a bypass looper/midi controller for effects switching. I was a little nervous about it all working ok, but it turned out to be a total game changer.
I set it up so that each bank on the looper bypass box represents a song, and then I have four possible different sounds within that bank. Through the use of midi, I'm able to not only have the presets call out what pedals I want used on a preset, but what the pedals do. So, any sound I come up with in rehearsal or at home happens instantly with the push of one switch.
I know this is far from new technology, and it would definitely be overkill on your typical country gig, but I'm finding it very useful for the stuff I'm trying to do. No more approximating tones so that they work throughout several sections of a song, or thinking about how to duck out in order to switch fx on and off. |

Hi Brett ,
You mention in your thread about midi switching being perhaps overkill for a typical country gig .....The way I see it , country music today is sounding more and more like rock ....It ain't yur daddies Country Music anymore !!.....That being said , you will be using a lot more effects than what were used in the past ..so the midi switching will surely become more useful ...
I'm a keyboard player by trade , so I have been using midi for quite a while ....I'm loving the uses it has for guitar and pedal steel etc ...It takes a little time setting up program and effect changes , but once they are set up , you can make some major channel and effect changes at the push of a button ..Good Luck with it !!.....Jim |

Yeah, I spent a couple of hours staring at the manuals and feeling confused, but once I figured out how to make one preset with midi commands to the pedals I was off and running. A couple of hours later I had the whole set programmed with every sound for every song. I'm using the Decibel 11 Switch Dr... If anyone is interested in this kind of thing, it's a pretty cheap way to get into it. |
