I asked this question long ago, but maybe I asked it in the wrong section of the forum: Is anybody out there using Acoustic Image amps for pedal steel? They're lightweight, powerful and clean; lots of jazz guitarists and bassists use them. Just wondering if anybody's using them for pedal steel. _________________ Lots of stringy things, many of them slidey. |

Bob,
I happen to have an Acoustic Image Clarus SL-R amp that I purchased from another Forum member a couple of years ago. Here is a photo of it taken from his post.
I made a bracket for it to hang on the right side of my Pac seat, so I can fiddle with the knobs if I want to. It sounds terrific and has more than enough power (350W) with on-board digital reverb. I'd highly recommend their products based on their quality and customer service. For such a small package, it really delivers the goods. Unfortunately, it's out of production but this one and similar models can be found on the used market. _________________ Best regards,

Thanks, Lynn. I'm surprised that more steel players don't use AI stuff. I have an old (2005) Clarus 2R head that I've been using for jazz guitar. With the cabs I have for jazz guitar (Raezers Edge NY-8 and Redstone Audio RS8), the steel sounds kind of boxy. But I'm thinking that with a nice open-back 12 or 15, it'd make a great steel amp. 300 watts into 2 ohms, 200 watts into 8 ohms, and, as you said, nice onboard reverb. I've had excellent customer service from the company and they're just 2 hours up the road from me if things get really gnarly.
What kind of cabinet(s) are you using? _________________ Lots of stringy things, many of them slidey. |

Bob,
I have a pair of Telonics cabinets (loaded with their own 4 ohm speakers) that I've been using in stereo with a Telonics rack system. I've just been using one of those cabinets with my Clarus, when I've needed a smaller footprint on stage. _________________ Best regards,
