I first learned to play "How D'ya Do" in the C6th tuning. I'm experimenting with the B11th. Does Jerry play this tune in the B11th tuning? Can anyone confirm this? It's in his "Hawaiian Beach Party" collection.

Also, Scotty has a big instructional course by Jerry that sells for over $100. Who has bought this course and was it a big help for you?

A million thanks in advance, Rick

I'll second what Jeffstro said about the Jerry Byrd course. I bought it two years ago and am still learning from it. It is well worth the money. It is probably the most comprehensive course in non pedal steel guitar available.

I think the song almost seems to have been built around the B11th tuning, just like "Sand". It's almost a "lick-book" of how many versions of that I to I79th two frets drop you can possibly do, just all over the progression. Cool song and many re-usable things to learn from.

I bought JB's book about 17 years ago when the first edition was published. In spite of a huge amount of printer's errors, (at least some 25 pages which Jerry replaced), I found the book to be very helpful. I feel it is designed primarily for someone who is already a player and wishes to polish up the rough spots of his/her musicianship. As a book for the beginner, this early edition seemed to move along at a very brisk rate which most beginners would have some difficulty to follow. Not enough pages devoted to the various tunings. Back in those days, the video was not an option nor available. I have seen the newer editions along with the video and certainly have no hesitation in recommending it.
