Me too, thought only Danny Gatton played lap on a few tunes for him.
Now listening to it again it's obvious.
Love Chris have seen him many times and loved his TV show, my wife is a huge fan of his too.

yes..and tom's beautiful xmooth later in life tone with perfect intonation.
do you think this is his s11 zb or the anapeg?
did he do any recording with the anapeg?
maybe rolene would know. |

If I remember right, he cut the Chris Isaak stuff with the black SD-11 ZB. Great stuff by Tom!!!!

Thanks for this! I heard Isaak years ago and wondered who it was on steel.
Now I am listening to this again and again. I love the production--yes, Brumley is relatively down in the mix but he is still audible and creates that "atmospheric" steel part that is a perfect counterpoint to the vocals.
TB's signature lick, too. He is using an F# to G# lever, right? Starting with the lever engaged, then releasing it so the G# glisses down to F#. Cool!
And the tone . . . like silk!

| Tom never had the high F# to G# change on any of his guitars. He raised both his F#'s to a G with a staggard RKR. Also, he raised his 7th string from F# to G# with his 1st pedal. What you are hearing on the recordings posted is actually his 4th string. He had a knee lever that raised just the 4th from E to F# along with the standard C pedal. Tom was as smooth as silk with killer tone to boot!!! |

Everything you said on these posts is correct...Chris is the nicest and the " most down to earth" guy in the business besides Vince Gill...Can you believe he loves his 64 Nova and picked Tom up at the airport in it...Tom just thought the world of Chris...Oh, by the way guys if you need to know anything technical about guitars, amps,and what guitar he played on what tune, etc about Tom just ask Greg Jones..he knows it all...  TRUE And Gary love those posts of the songs Tom did with Chris..Aren't they just wonderful !!! Love Chris' singing too
