Hi Troy,
I just ordered and received that song from you and am having a great time working my way through it.
It's a very pleasant little tune and it is easy enough for a beginner like me to tackle.
Thanks for all the work you do. Some of us out here appreciate it. _________________ I have stuff.
I try to make music with it.
Sometimes it works.
Sometimes it doesn't.
But I keep on trying. |

I'll do some more digging. The article says Appalachia in the 1870s by way of origin so one might guess originally an English/Irish melody. Lead Belly just did a blues version of the by then 'traditional' song. So at least Nirvana didn't 'steal' it from Lead Belly. Hey guys, sorry I missed your posts on here. Normally I get emails to let me know when someone comments, but I guess they went to my spam folder or something.
Yeah, I know there's a few ways to play this tune. I just think of the bluegrass version or the blues version. My version is the bluesy version. More akin to Leadbelly or Nirvana's version.
Thanks for the nice comments!!! Glad you enjoy it.

i was going to say it reminds me of the Nirvana version myself.
But then I've heard about 50 versions as have plenty of us.
The deciding factor seems to be on many traditional or "public domain" songs is what version will one encounter at a typical public jam? Or often times performers in a quickly put together aggregation at a gig might go for a classic, but everyone needs to be on the same page so that it doesn't result in a train wreck. _________________ Mark |
