Carson is an old friend that I haven't seen in a long time. He builds a really nice guitar, and the custom tooling was done by a serious gun engraver.

Herb, if you see your friend, tell him he makes some of the most unique, and beautiful steels I have ever seen...I am having a serious thoughts about keeping this instrument, I have never seen one like it, and I've been around steel guitars since 1988...if I sell my '70 Emmons before this CW, I will keep this in my bedroom.... and ain't going nowhere

Carson also built Tom Morrell's last guitar, an S-10 non-pedal guitar with an unusual tuning mechanism.

I have never seen another one of these guitars, this one is #0138 ,how many did he built? guitar plays and sounds like a Legrande Emmons, looks way better tho...

I have one and I'll check the sn# on it tomorrow, mine was made in May of 1994. It still plays and sounds as good as it did day one. However, my mica is not as fancy as that. Mine has a black front and back apron and a white "marble" top.

Joe, thank you for the pic, yours is the second CW I've ever seen lol ... how would you compare tone, and playability of CW to Emmons Lagrande?

I have to apologize to all the guys asking me about more info, I really don't know almost anything about these guitars, this is the only one I ever owned, and now here I just saw Joes CW, which makes it two, mine and his that I've ever seen... extremely rare guitar...

Damir... Looking at the undercarriage, what are the shiny metal pieces between the fingers on th C neck and the first cross shaft?

I believe there was the same piece on E9 neck, but its missing...maybe something like Jimmie was using on his JCH guitars

I've never really played a LeGrande so I can't compare them. Carson did pattern some of his underside mechanics after MCI/EMCI guitars. I checked under my guitar and all over, no serial # to be found. I do know that my guitar was an early one. I would say probably in the first 20 he built. It has the same quality engraving on it like yours does. He had the guy do one for a demo that every piece of polished aluminum was engraved. It was awesome looking and for a couple hundred extra he would do that as a custom add-on. The guitar I got was being built for Buddy Emmons to critique, I intercepted it because I was about to go out on the road for a while and had a pocket full of cash and needed a new axe. I don't know if he ever built one and sent it to Buddy to play. There are some things about the guitar that aren't as good mechanically as newer ones, but all in all they are great guitars. Damir, I'm not telling you what to do, but if I were you I would keep the C&W and never sell it. Not because it's going to grow in value like a Franklin or an early PP Emmons, but simply because they are really nice guitars.The biggest drawback of them is that they are HEAVY! I went to Carson's shop and helped him work on my guitar to get it built faster so it would be finished in time to take on the road with me. Here is what I can tell you about how they are built. For starters, the top is 1 inch treated marine plywood. They have an all aluminum frame that is welded together. I don't know where he got his changer design from, but it is a triple raise triple lower. All the aluminum parts on the underside are cut out of billet and not cast. If you have any more questions I'll try to answer them.....

thank you my friend, I'm playing my '70 Emmons right now, if I sell it before this one sells, I will most likely keep this guitar... even my 8 year old loves it, she calls it a "fancy guitar" lol...

| If no one has mentioned this to you I would be suprised but you should publish a book on Steel Guitars. I have never seen photo's like this. These guitars are works of art. I am a long way from an authority but these are the best steel pics I have ever seen, and some of the nicest guitars as you can;t have a great pic without a killer guitar and every one of yours I have seen is off the hook. Just sayin' |
