I learned a valuable lesson Saturday night. I ain't the axe, it's the axehandler.

Watched Dave Ristrim play behind Buddy Jewell at the fair in Smethport, Pa. Dave was makin' music with that Carter that was as pretty and sweet as anything I've ever heard from a Sho-Bud, ZB, Emmons, or Franklin or whatever. And the harmonics were beautiful too.

It can be done! Time for me to get back to regular practice and forget suspecting the equipment.

Or maybe it is the axe! There's certainly nothing wrong with Carter's professional pedal steel guitars.

I am in no way intending any negatives about the Carter. I had just never heard a Carter live before and am very impressed. Hope nobody takes my statement the wrong way.

Carters are respected, and should be.
There's a lot of pro shows with Carter Steels in them.

I just had a look at their web site, and the current selection of (other brand) trade-ins is impressive.

Still, the most important part of great sound is the player.

You want Carter Magic, try Corky Owens with the Gene Watson group. Killer tone and hands.

Dave ain't no slouch, that's for sure

Dave also owns or has owned Franklins, P/P's, Mullens, Sho-Buds, etc and he loves that Carter He has always got killer tone on anything because he's a killer player. Glad you got to see him!

Carter has made in roads with decent tone on their guitars in recent years, and they appear to be never satisfied and make continued improvements. They also play very well. A progressive company.

Yeah I am sure Dave can make almost any steel sound great.
His album is one of my favorites.

And having played a Carter for 40 minutes in England,
and then heard Doug Jernigan play the same axe on stage later, there is no knocking that guitar at all.

I'm not one to miss a commercial opportunity

Check out Dave Ristrim's CD, "Crisis at the Theme Park". It was recorded a few years ago on an Emmons push-pull, and it's still one of the best rock steel CDs you'll ever find.

The first time I ever heard a Carter it was Bud Carter playing at the steel show in Dallas. I could not believe my ears, I RAN to the stage to check it out. I later bought one which I liked a lot. Finally dropped a set of Emmons single coil pickups in it, it sounded just great.

A while back,I went to see one of our "locals" play in a club. He was playing an Emmons p/p,through a Peavey Nash. 400. If Buddy Emmons,& Hartley Peavey were there,& heard the tone that this guy was gettin',they would've come down & removed the plastic nameplates from their equipment!!
