Hi Folks, a friend of mine is considering selling an '80's MSA Uni and wondering what it's value might be? White Mica with 8 pedals/4 knees with case. Originally it was a double ten converted to a Universal with pad. What are your Guess-timates please?

Billy,
What undercarrage does it have? Is it the more modern "cross rods & bell cranks" or the older "flat strap" type?
Is it a Double/Double changer or Triple/Triple ?

Jim,

I seem to recall the bottom as having the more modern undercarriage set-up (not flap style) also it's not triple raise but the double as you mentioned. Robert your price quote is somewhat amusing! (not)
Just trying to help a good steel possibly find a home here guys..

A lot depends on the condition, and how well the conversion was done. So...you're talking about an SD10 with 8+4? While you called it a "universal", you didn't really say if it still has 10 strings, or if a 12 string conversion was done. (To me, "universal" signifies a tuning, not a special guitar.)

At any rate, my best guess (and that's what it is, without seeing the guitar in person), would be that it's worth between $700 and $900.

Hi Donnie and thanks for responding, it is actually a 12 string Universal and I know the guy that did the conversion, he's pretty good at 'fixing the steels up' as he's a machinist and small boat maker, anyway my friend just doesnt play it and was curious. I've seen older double 10 Msa's go for usually around $1200.00 on this forum so the Universal should'nt be that far off. BTW are the crabs in season in Baltimore this time of year? I miss those little suckers..

Well, universals are no where near as popular as D10's (not a personal judgement, just a statement of fact), so you would expect the universal to take longer to sell, and bring less money.

Billy, Ithink you could get $1,100 or 1,200 would be a got price if it is in very good shape. If it doesn't look that good maybe $800 or $900. I hope this helps

I'll second Bob D's estimate.

MSA's seem to sell at bargain prices, and the Universal setup narrows you market.
