Bob when I had my p/p I went to a welding shop and got 1/8 steel rod and flattened one end and drilled hole for hook. I sanded them with 400 grit paper and waxed them and they never did rust. As far as the hooks I make them out of a old throttle cable off a old mower and worked fine.

I made a whole batch from stainless welding rods, 1/8" thick. I found ones that were already stamped flat on one end. Use a drill press to get the holes thru it. You may also want to countersink the holes so the hook moves easily thru it. With the stainless rods, you don't really need to treat them to prevent rust. Very affordable way to do it. I don't know where to get the hook wire.

I got some really nice rods from Jerry Roller. They're stainless steel, about 3' long, with the flats and holes at each end. In most cases you can cut it to get two rods from one.
As for the hooks, the little marker rods with flags that utility companies use to mark their lines are just the right size, and can be purchased from your local hardware store for under $1 each. |

You could check with Bobby Bowman in Houston also. He's a really nice guy. He has some really neat knurled half-tone tuners, like for the E-to-F knee lever raise. They beat the heck out of the orginal ones with the hex bolt.
