Topic: 6th or 7th string changes paired with the string 1+2 raise |

My RKR raises strings 1+2, and I've seen various options for the 6th or 7th string changes usually paired on this lever. The following seem to be the most common:
lower 6th G#-F# (Emmons, Hughey)
raise 7th F#-G# (Paul Franklin)
raise 7th F#-G (Jimmy Day)
I've experimented with all of these options, and I like things about each. Help me out with any suggestions. |

I like the 6 lower to F#. There is no wrong way really, just your personal preference. With the 7 raise to G # on the same lever, there is less opportunity for a "clammed" note. Some players have both the 7 raise and 6 lower on separate levers. That's a little redundant...ymmv

I have 1 & 2 raise (to G# & E respectively) on the same knee as the 6 lower, although the lower is only one half-tone, to G. I've been thinking about going for a whole tone, as I can see advantages in that. I just haven't bitten the bullet yet.
I did once have a raise on 7 and 1, by one half-tone, but I agree the chance of a clam is greater (especially with me!) which is why I moved it to 6 to get the same note. I haven't regretted the change.

My RKL has the 1st string full tone raise, 2nd string half tone raise and the 6th string full tone lower (and split with the B pedal). That is the most common setup. It was the factory stock setup on a Carter, its the stock factory setup on a GFI and maybe on others.
I also raise the 7th string a half tone but I have that on my RKR that also has the 2nd string lower and 9th string lower. |

I have the same changes on a different lever ( really doesn't matter)
I raise 1-2 &7 to G#- E- & G#
after hearing the 6 lowered I tried it but put it back after I realized I already had the 6 lower on my pedal 4 |

I like the 6th string lower because it also gives a G note when split with the "B" pedal. Good for minors by itself, and for 7ths with A+B.

factory stock on a carter? i didn't realize that change had been around that long. i still haven't bothered with it. plenty of other things to learn on the 'old fashioned' setup. |

| I prefer the 6string lower seperate from first string movement. 1,2+7 raise on LKR and 6 lower on LKV. |

I have just my 6 string lower on my RKR. When I bought the guitar, I had them put the 1st & 2nd string raises on the same lever. Along with 2 pulls on the C6 neck, and the three pulls on E9, the lever took a tow truck to pull it all the way. So, I moved the 1st & 2nd string changes to my 2nd LKL, but it was awkward to hit quickly. Now I have them on my 4th pedal (next to the A pedal - I play Day style). But, I am learning a solo that uses the 2nd string raise and lower the 2nd to C#, and then quickly back to A&B pedals. It is just too uncomfortable to play that with a pedal. I am going to leave the pedal as is, but add the 2nd string raise to either the RKR or my LNV (the lever raises both F#'s to G. I don't think it will interfere with the first string going to G.

Lloyd uses a bar slant to get that effect.
