i got an iPad for christmas. my main use for it has been to keep charts in a program called IRealbook. You can make your own charts with it and put them in order of set lists. I also bought a "Talent" iMS1 Music Stand clip which I attach to the thing that holds my stroboflip, and it makes for a perfect view of the iPad.no more sheet music and cumbersome music stands ! check it out !

The iPad is the greatest thing for charts gigs. Especially when using a Pdf viewer where all you do is swipe to go to the next page.

I, too, use an IPad with the IRealbook app and have been for some time. That app/program beats everything hands down and is incredible. Best of all, it costs something like $8 or so. You can download 100's, if not 1000's, of chord charts for virtually every standard written, change the key or tempo or style with a touch and, as Karen said, write your own charts, too. Best thing I've gotten in a long time.

Now if I can find a similar app that does notation/melody/etc .....

Guys,
I'm looking in the APP Store and I don't see IRealbook

I do see one called Ireal Pro Music Book and Player

Is this the one?

Also, can I load my own tab into the program?
Thanks

I just use my iPad for set lists. When I put a song on the list that I don't know, I'll write down the chord progression. I had an attachment that when I tried to attach it to my guitar's leg, there was not enough adjustment to make it point up where I could see it. So, I just attached it to a mic stand. I have ordered one that has several adjustments that should let me attach the iPad to my guitar leg.

I Real Pro essentially allows you to access chord charts that others have posted. There is a huge number of charts available. I don't think that it was mentioned that these are transposable. Really nice for working with singers and not having to focus on the transposition. There are also discs floating around with all of the real books and more on them, which you can load on the ipad through itunes. Really nice to use on a gig where tunes are being called randomly (once you get used to using the ipad in this way).

Any idea if this will work with the iPad in a case? Mine's in a pretty thick Gumdrop case.

As Eric pointed out, this app is great when you need to transpose a tune.

forScore is another app for the Ipad that works very well. I have been using it for about 2 years and am very pleased with it. I also have iReal Pro but prefer forScore especially for it's set list function. The nice thing about iReal Pro is the forum that people post many songs to. I have used songs from iReal Pro and sent them to forScore so I can use them in a set list much easier.

Another vote for the forScore app for iPad. I use it in conjunction with the Tiny Scanner app to load my song charts. I also use a cool little bluetooth foot pedal from PageFlip called Firefly. I can make set lists and turn pages back and forth accurately, without touching the iPad. I no longer have to carry my thick 3 ring binder. forScore allows me to find the right page in seconds.

Rick,
I use the exact same set up with forScore and the page flip. This combo gives me complete hands off control during the set. I have said this before, the iPad, forScore and Pageflip have been my most important non-instrument gear purchases in a long time.
