i don't know if anyone has had any problems with pay pal but my wife had a seperate account at our bank just for pay pal and ebay. she quit using it and went today to close out the account.
our banker asked her if she tryed to send any money through western union. we don't ever use western union. he looked on the account and they tryed to get 800 something dollars twice.
he checked our business and personal accounts and they were ok.
the banker said that someone must have gotten information through ebay somehow.
she lost $30.00
he said maybe pay pal or ebay couldn't be trusted.
has anyone else had any problems? |

What a perfect example of False Authority Syndrome!
The banker probably knows all about banking but that does NOT make him an expert or even marginally knowledgable about Paypal, Ebay or anything to do with them or the internet.
In the last few years, scammers have set-up fake emails and webpages to look as if they are by Paypal or Ebay, and in these emails they state, in very bad English (your first clue that it's a fake) that unless you "update your account and credit card information", your account will be closed, making you think you're going to lose all your money in that account... and they ask for your credit card number, PIN, drivers license number, etc. Ebay and Paypal NEVER ask for this info in an email. A friend's girlfriend fell for this scam and her checking account was promptly drained, losing more than $500. This is not Ebay or Paypal doing this, and although I have no interests or loyalties to either of them, I dislike the spreading of false information and conjecture when it points a finger of guilt...(talking about the banker here)... By the way, I've had accounts with Ebay and Paypal both for over 6 years and no problems with either one, but then I recognize these scams when I see them.

I've been using PayPal for several years without problems. You do have to watch out for those fake PayPal emails, though. If you're not careful, you can inadvertantly give some scammer your password.
Since this is computer-related and not about pedal steel, I'm moving it to the "Computers" section of the Forum.
