This will probably be a long shot, but I thought I'd post this.

I had a Country Gospel album in the early 80's that had some great steel on it...this album was most likely from the 70's or early 80's. It featured a white male singer.

Two of the songs that I distinctly remember are;

1) There's no sitting on the fence. Mid Tempo 4/4 - this song had a lot of little "stops" & "breaks" in it that was really catchy.

2) Born Again

I am thinking that "Great Speckled Bird" may have been on there as well, but I can't say for sure.

At first I had an idea that this was a Don Francisco album, but I don't believe it was him, as I've looked through most all of his recordings from that era and nothing looks familiar.

It was a great album, I picked up a lot of good steel licks/fill from it, very enjoyable to listen to. The steel was prominently featured on all of the songs, as I remember.

I've searched for this album off and on for years to no avail. I know I've not given much to go on, but if this rings any bells with anyone, please let me know.

Jerry,

Yes! That's it! Very Happy

How in the world did you ever figure that out from my limited information? I've done searches for years using various terms but never hit upon it.

I just looked it up and I instantly recognized the cover. I listened to "Born Again" on youtube, and it is indeed the one, however, for some reason I do not really remember the singer having an accent like that.

At any rate, "Thanks so much" for the information!

Here is "Born Again" on youtube. Straight ahead good sounding steel for that era. No credits for the musicians on the album jacket, so I guess this was a studio man - and I don't recognize his playing.

I sure wish I would have kept all those great Gospel albums that I had from years ago...unfortunately, I threw most of them away during the multiple moves in my life...

BTW, I just thought of another good Gospel album from that era with good picking on it - "The Four Galileans - Make it Happen"

Cool song/playing - neat little intro on this one!

Tim,

Searching is much more effective if you can narrow the search terms. In this instance, if you Google "there's no sitting on the fence" (in quotes) plus the word song, Andrew Culverwell is about the only name returned. Then it's only a matter of looking through the discography for an album with the songs you mentioned. Of course, it's not always that easy...... JJ

" " is the trick...I wasn't using "quotes" in my searching, so I was getting results from The Rolling Stones and a lot of other unrelated stuff.

I guess I knew that from years ago, but I kinda forgot... Embarassed

Lot's of great old Gospel albums out there with studio pickers on them, I'll get to searching for them now.

For the record (no pun intended), Lloyd Green, Larry Sasser, and Sonny Garrish were some of the popular names I recall from that time on these recordings.

Great stuff!
