...anyone know a way to "gracefully" remove a decal, without damaging a lacquered or poly finish?

Many thanks in advance, Rick

Try some lighter fluid (naptha). It removes all sorts of sticky tape residue.

If it's a real decal- its water slide,
you can soak it off with a warm wet sponge, if its a sticker use a hair dryer until it gets
soft and the edges curl- peel off and remove any adhesive residue with "goo off" from home depot.

I had a guitar once that the decal was UNDER the lacquer. It was a mess and I wouldn't suggest trying to remove under those conditions. Otherwise these other suggestions have worked for me in other instances.

Rick:
If you get the decal off and have some glue leftover to contend with, save yourself some money and remove it with peanut butter. Guarantee it will remove the glue and will not harm finish (unless you use chunky!!). I use it to remove glue from all kinds of things.

Scotch tape.

Whatever doesn't come off the first try, use another piece for the rest.

It's always worked for me. Hope this helps.

If you do use heat such as a hair dryer be very careful to not get the lacquer too hot as it will melt and bubble up.

Let us know what kind of guitar it is.

With some brands a blowtorch would be best.

JUST KIDDING!!!!

I have been removing tape and velcro from electronic equipment for many years. If you have sticky tape residue, you can apply "WD40",let it sit a few minutes and scrape or rub it off......... JD

Dont use fingernail polish remover, the acetone will eat lacquer.
