That guy in the video uses it the way it's meant to be used.

I was working at Homespun Music in Kalamazoo in the late 70's when they were first invented and one of the company principals (Not Emmett) came by the store to demo the stick. I was very impressed and was trying to figure out how to afford one. Kind of glad I couldn't as it sure would have cut into my steel practice time. Fascinating instrument. Check out Tony Levin's playing on Stick.

The Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix has a very nice display of Chapman sticks. BTY, they have an old Sho-Bud as an example of a pedal steel guitar.
If anyone is ever in the Phoenix Metro area a visit to the MIM is definitely worth the time
