I was able to find a Peavey Renown 115 with a Black Widow speaker locally for a good deal (only $200-ish?). I play a Zumsteel encore through it with a hilton pedal. I've heard it was a highly regarded amp by Lloyd Green, but I'm not so sure about it. I'd like something more silky-smooth with a clearer, more responsive low-end. I do like the sound of tubes. I'm considering investing in a better sounding amp. I haven't been able to try out many different amps. Any ideas?

Where are you in Texas ?

If you are near Austin you could come by and check out a pile of Milkman amps.

Other than that look at 70's Fender Twins. Great amps and not to expensive.

I like Silverface Fenders. They sound great, they are easy to service, and they will last forever. Bob is right about the Twins. A Bandmaster Reverb though a cab with a Black Widow/Telonics/JBL sounds great to my ears but I don't play with any loud drummers. I have a Milkman Sideman that sounds really good as well.

Change out the output transformer in that Bandmaster to one for a Bassman (50w vs. 35w)for improved wattage and tone.

Bob, I appreciate the offer but I'm a bit more north. I'm in the Dallas metroplex area.
