I have just taken a Excel in PX and cant see any way to take the slack out of the tuning rods,at the momen the bellcranks have about 1/4" play before they start pulling the strings up to pitch, the steel has no visible pedal stops to adjust to take the slack out of the system. Is there any one who can help please?I have e-mailed Excel about this but have had no reply up till now.I am sure there must be a way on the Excel because it is such a well made guitar. Thanks for any help.

God bless..Jimmy G.

My Excel is an early Superb keyless model. Since I do not know which model you have, I can only speculate.

Based on mine, the pedal crank on the crossbars are stopped by a cap screw (with locking nut) that is screwed into the front rail. They are very easily adjusted up and down after the locking nut is loosened.

Again, I am only speculating so I do not know if you have this arrangement also. If you do, please remember to retighten the locking nuts after you get them right.

Incidently there should be some play before the bellcranks starts pulling. If it is indeed a full 1/4" that is a bit much.

Good luck, and may Jesus bless you in your quests,

carl

Hi Carl, thanks for your imput in trying to help, not sure of the year of my D10, but the head stock is in one piece not like the MSA`s type with a single castings for the tuners,it is a beautifull guitar, and i know about the pedal stop screws because of steels i have owned before, and i canot see any kind of pedal stop screws on this guitar. So if i don`t hear from Excel i will make my own,it is a very simple thing to do,but i just thought there must be a way on such a well made steel.[but maybe not] i will waite and see if Excel get back to me.

Regards and God bless you Carl...Jimmy..

Jimmy,

After thinking about it and based on what you have described, I believe you may have an Excel that is part of Mitsuo's regular line of Guitars (Not the exclusive Superb models). As such there may indeed be no stop adjustment on the pedals.

The Excel that is mostly talked about on this forum, is a much different guitar than what I am presuming (now) that you have.

Also, while I love the Emmons' PSG guitar also, please don't believe it is a perfect guitar. It is far from that. The stop on LKR has been a joke since day one on all their LeGrandes. And there are other things that are less than optimum.

I hope you find a way to add adjustable stops on your guitar.

A Better Way

My Excel (a keyless S10 w/3 & 5) has stop screws on the front rail for the three pedals, but the K L stops are allen screws that extend into the pre-drilled holes in the 2 rails that the cross shafts are mounted in. The edge of the hole being the stop when the extended screw hits it. There should be very little travel at the bell crank before the string's pitch starts to change. Just enough to make sure the string retuns to it's original pitch when you release the K L. The K L can then be adjusted
with the set screws at the bracket holding it to the cross shaft to have it where you'd like it positioned. We really need pictures don't we!
