I had one last night. Listening to Buddy Ytube vids for four days will do that to you. I really concentrated on my intonation, tone, and phrasing, did I mention intonation? I tend to just use 2 pedals and 2 knee levers about 99% of the time but they were working overtime last night. I was in the PP tone zone all night and loving every note every minute of the 4 hour gig. I am exhausted this morning. _________________ '70 D10 Black fatback Emmons PP, Hilton VP, BJS bars, Boss GE-7 for Dobro effect, Zoom MS50G, Stereo Steel amp, Telonics 15” speaker.

To respond to the original post: One in ten is great, and about the same ratio for horrible nights.
Last Saturday I sat around in a hotel and relaxed until gig time. I was feeling good and I played great; it was a ten, a fun gig.
Then I got up early Sunday morning, loaded up, drove for three hours, and then set up and sound checked, etc. for an afternoon gig. I played horrible; no time to relax before the gig. My timing was off and I couldn't play fast licks to save my soul. It was pretty much a one or two kind of gig.
Most gigs are somewhere in the middle. _________________ It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. |

I've found that when I go along expecting a great gig, I'm disappointed. But when I'm feeling down or unwell, the gig seems to become great. It usually depends on the crowd response. The best gig (apparently) was when our guitar player busted his hip (riding a BMX bike with his grandson) the day of a big gig. We had to do it 3 piece and adrenalin kicked in and we played really well to cover for the missing part. It took me about two weeks to recover from the exertion though.
I still get a buzz thinking about it.
