Just wondering if anyone has ever made or seen a campfire pedal steel guitar. One your not afraid to set outside and jam with the guys and girls setting around the fire. Would like to see some pics.

No, but I had one burnt up by some broken-nosed guys in Milwaukee. They remodeled their club quite nicely, but I lost everything!

Oh well, it was a Miller S-10. Not a big loss, except I spent weeks restoring it. And the day I finished it, It was reprocessed! Saved my money and bought a Shobud Crossover. It was stollen, along with my 1958 Flying V. Oh well,,,,If I still had the V, I'd sell it, and move to someplace warm!

No campfire guitar, but. I did have rodeo steel. We played the Saturday night rodeo at the Painted Pony in Lake Lucerne, NY. We played in an open, empty chute right at ground level. I ate dust, my amp ate dust and so did my RusLer steel. It took quite some to clean my rig, when, we were done. We had that gig for a whole summer. It was much nicer playing in their Golden Palace Saloon. We just had to deal with their drunks, there.

If it was stolen. .. and police report filed. ... it remains your property as far as I know. ...no statue of limitations on crime.

That would be worth spending ALOT of time following up.

A steel that would be accommodating to campfire use would need to be either, easy to tune, or very stable, tuning-wise. White fretboards? they are better for low light situations, IMHO. Unbreakable is another good feature...?

Dust and dirt would be much worse than smoke and ashes in the air. I think I'll just make something. Thanks for your post.

honestly, something clunky like an old Miller would be good, in that you could tear it down and clean it easily. And it's not "worth" much. Great sounding and built like a tank.

Campfire pedal steel guitar? You mean...outside, in the weather, in the dirt, and with no electricity? Hey, I've done a lot worse gigs, in the cold, in the wind (so bad it was blowing the amps over), and in the heat and rain. But to me, a pedal steel just doesn't "fit" in with the campfire idea/mood or "ambience". It would be sorta like taking a set of drums when you're going fishing. Winking

I know it sounds crazy Donny but, it's mostly a family, friend event and in weather permitting conditions. I did it once with my equipment and the smoke smell was so bad when it came back home. Dobro is cool but not what we want. Thanks for the kindling offer Mike.lol

I'm thinking lap steel and battery amp. Done that with a supro 6 string lap and crate taxi amp. Works well, that is until the smoke blows in your eyes.

Hey Larry, I've done the lap also. More than likely I'll have to stay with that. Can't have everything.
