Have any of you tried the Origin Effects Cali76 and/or SlideRIG on pedal steel?

The Cali76 is a clone of the revered 1176 studio compressor in pedal form. They just added a new series of compact versions of the pedal (minus the transformers) with a clever metering system. The SlideRIG is two daisychained 1176's running in series geared towards bottle neck players.

I have had a long love/hate relationship with compression on my steel. When playing really modern country or trying to capture the tone of some of the really polished nashville stuff I find that it helps but I've never found a compressor that didn't kill the top end. I was playing around in the studio last night and decided to try running my steel through a studio compressor (ART PRO-VLA2) and found that by rolling off the attack a bit I was able to get some great tones. Anyway, since this is a full featured 1176 in a box I figure it might work really well for steel. They doubled the range of the attack knob (still pretty short), but also added a dry blend knob for parallel compression.

It's crazy expensive, but I'm going to sell some gear and give the Cali76-CD (compact deluxe) a go. I'll report back, but have any of you already tried it with their larger counterparts?

Never used it on PSG, but my Origin Cali76TX and SlideRig are my secret weapons.....they are just the best. Simply put, they make everything sound better. Not sure how or why, but they just do.

I just ordered a Cali76 compact as well......stoked for this one!
