Topic: vertical knee for sho bud |

|
i was hanging out with another steel player yesterday and we were talking about lowering the 6th string with a vertical knee. he had the change on his guitar, but i don't have it on mine...at least o thought i didn't. i was fiddling around this morning and lo and behold, someone had already rigged this change up on my guitar, but just removed the lever.
what are my options for levers, and what parts do i need to get this up and running (no pun intended)?
the guitar is a mid '70s ldg double raise single lower.

looks like you would need a vertical knee lever kit and a connecting rod with ball joints.That should be it since cross shaft and rod is already there.

Something else to consider, the 6th string lower is used a lot with the E to D# lever. I've changed around a couple of guitars that had the E string changes on the left knee and that change on the vertical. They couldn't hit both levers at the same time.

| That depends on a few things: whether the vertical is direct- or reverse-pull, where it is in relation to the LKR in either case, the height of one's knee in relation to the height of the guitar, the lengths of the levers themselves, the throw of the respective levers, affect how practicable that combination is. I have guitars on which that combination is effectively not usable for me. |

I have that change on the "inside" LKL, towards the front oif the guitar. Works very well!

Yes it is hard to tell what you really need without a pic that shows where the cross shaft is in relation to the other knee levers.

Depends on the guitar and how the vertical is mounted. I can not use the vertical on my E9th cluster with LKL or LKR, or on my C6 cluster with it's LKL and LKR easily. It would take shifting my body around and never work in a live situation.

please show us a picture from a little farther away, so we can see where that unit is located and offer more assistance. Ron
PS. I don't like the way the D-shaft is mounted in a round hole, unless there is a compensating bushing, but that's just me nit-pickin'.

well, i thought i had a line on someone to help me with this, but i guess i didn't.
ron, the shaft is located in between the a and b pedals, but i don't have a problem with moving it to a better location.
i think i need:
-a lever
-a linkage (similar to the one on my lkl)
-a bracket to hold the lever
-a bushing
i'm open to used parts for sure if anyone has some kicking around.

not necessary. sho-buds are somewhat simple and crude and work just fine the way they are. |

| Why not just unscrew and relocate the cross shaft to the other side of LKR, then all you'll need is a lever, direct pull, no linkage. Done. It would be ~1-1/2" further in under the guitar than Jason's. |

I like where mine is located. Pretty comfortable and by adjusting the length of the connecting rod I can adjust the height of the lever.
