Two great music shows on DirecTV tonite (Mon, 7/20) starting at 8:30pm...Channel 340 AXSTV.
The "Brian Wilson & Friends Concert live from the Venetian" features most of the tunes on Brian's latest album "No Pier Pressure". Then at 10pm is a reairing of "The Wrecking Crew", Denny Tedesco's tribute to his Dad Tommy, possibly the most recorded guitarist of all time. For anyone not familiar with the story, The Wrecking Crew were the unsung hero studio musicians on literally hundreds of recordings in the 60's (Beach Boys, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Mamas and Papas, Frank Sinatra, The Monkees, Sonny & Cher, the list goes on and on). For anyone who grew up in that era, it's eye-opening to find out the number of groups that didn't play their instruments on recordings...LOTS of tunes that made it to the radio were actually played by the Wrecking Crew. Great story, I highly recommend it.
