So a steel playing friend of mine in on the hunt. We put chips, rev pan and BW-1203 speaker in his N112. All is good, oh wait, his ears are maturing, he hears things he does not like, he doesn't hear things he thinks he should.

So he plugs into the front of the amp bypassing the entire EQ section (in the post EQ right input jack). He hooks up a small Zoom MS-50g fx pedal and holy moly we are getting closer. I put together a rev/delay/boost/eq patch in the MS-50 that brought out even more in your face, more balanced string volume.

He is using a Sarno Black Box, he wants to see what a tube preamp might sound like, so we have several options we want to try next.

I tell you this to tell you that, DO NOT SETTLE. With the toys we have out there today we do not have to.

I am currently using a Seymour Duncan Twin Tube pedal
into a MS-50 into a PV PX-300 powered cabinet with a BW-1501 DT. AT this time I am a happy camper and I have had many many many amps in the past. I may not be done, but, so far, today, all is well.

Bypassing the pre-amp and eq sections - using only the power stage of the NV-112, is what I have done for years. One of my two NV-112s is upgraded with better chips, but - as can be expected - they both sound better and produce less noise when bypassing all those stages and chips.

As the input impedance of the power stage is around 1Mohm - about 3 times higher than for the pre-amp input, any unit - stomp-box / match-box / pre-amp - can drive it. Directly from VP to power amp works too, but then the cable between VP and amp must be good and insensitive to electric noise in the surroundings because of the higher impedance at both ends of it.

One advantage - or disadvantage in some cases - is that by bypassing the pre-amp and eq sections the fixed high-pass filter between the pre-amp and eq section is also bypassed, making the NV-112 able to reproduce really low frequencies.

In the regular setting - with pre-amp and eq stages in the sound-chain, an NV-112 starts to drop off from around 80Hz because of that high-pass filter. The difference in "low body-tone" with and without that high-pass filter can be noticed playing an E9, and more so playing C6 and Universal.

I bypassed the 112 entirely... sold it. Now I use a full range power PA speaker and a Behringer mixer, and the Zoom MS-50G feeding it, and a Li'l Izzy feeding the whole shebang.

Larry...Have you tried plugging into the, 'Power Amp In' jack in the rear of the 112, believe that bypasses the preamp stage completely.

David I am reporting what my friend did, but I will talk to him today and give him your input.

Scott, try coming out of the lower output jack on the Zoom, let me know if you like it better.

What David said and if you get the PV foot pedal you can switch between the on board circuitry and ur customized chain. I did it that way to go between steel and slide(distortion). For slide I used a set of pedals on a board and went into the power amp in. It worked nicely and I still maintained low weight and portability. It's all in the manual. Good luck.

David, I actually come out of both jacks into a stereo channel on the board. I'm thinking about getting another matching speaker as when I use my "B3 Organ" patch, it comes out in stereo.
