I had read that the black ones sell faster and that on some of the less desirable colors that it could stay on the shelf a lot longer. That the serial number might date more closely with the date that it was actually made on a black one.

Lamar;

This is the reply I received from Rebecca Lashley of Emmons Guitar Co. back on April 25th 2007. She said my Lashley Legrande Serial#539L was built 5-24-88. The guitar's finish is DGRAY. 8P&8K, single coil pups, Schaller keys and 11 compensators. H. P.

My Emmons LeGrande SKH has a SN of 384L built in 1985 according to the Emmons records. Don't know if LeGrandes and Lashley LeGrandes shared the same SN assignment string or not.

Mine is 962L and was built in August of 1993.

It could not have been built before then as I sent Jack Strayhorn the laminate for the guitar.

Only one of this color ever built.

Bill is correct. If he knows his date then anything greater than would have to be afterwards. With his guitar being custom color then it would not have been a body built and shelved. Anything black with a close number would be of same vintage. An odd color with low number could be of similar vintage.
