Question about string-through pickup

I have a great sounding English Electronics Tonemaster w/string-through pickup...only minor issue is the 1st string(high E) is noticeably brighter sounding than the others. The output is fine overall.
Any suggestions?

Did you try lowering the pole screw for string 1? I had an English Electronics Tonemaster a few years ago and it sounded really good! Probably due to the long scale length and the Valco pickup.

Sometimes a burr or a flat spot on the bridge can cause a string to sound very different from the rest. I've had it happen on Stringmasters.

the pole screws need to be adjusted. My Supro sounded great and then I changed tunings (and string gauges) and had some strings with a very weak sound. Luckily, the screws turned easily. Sometimes they may need a bit of lubrication to free them up.

Thanks guys...the bridge is burr-free, and I raised/lowered the pole screw several times, to no avail. I guess it is what it is. Still sounds great overall, though.

I would remove the strings and polish the bridge aggressively with a good metal polish and put a new set of strings on. Maybe experiment with different string gauges.

I'm not sure of the age of these guitars - but couldn't the magnet in the pickup also have weakened over time?

That would cause weakened output and frequency response.

What if that string isn't noticeably brighter, but the frequency response all around is reduced - making the highest string (and frequencies) stand out more?
