I shall be working in North Carolina in the Raleigh-Durham area from Sunday June 21st to Friday June 26th. Are there any steel players in the area or can anybody recommend any good gigs in the evenings? |

Paul,
I live in Chapel Hill about 20mns south of Durham. There are several steel players in the area.
Not a lot of live country music in the area. But there's always the Ice House in Selma.

Also Billy Knowles arguably one of the best steel guitar restoration and repair guys on the east coast lives about an hour and a half away. I try to visit or speak with Billy about twice a year. May be a good excuse to go visit him.

Clyde Mattocks is a SGF member living near Kinston,NC I think but he has a Face Book page and may be gigging. He is a REALLY good player and a heck of a nice guy. Definitely worth a drive from RDU area to catch him.
Also, Billy Knowles knows a lot of pickers and you can contact him at Steel Guitars East website in Kenansville,NC. _________________ Emmons S10, p/p, Nashville 112, Zion 50 tele style guitar, Gibson LP Classic w/Vox AC30, Fender Deluxe De Ville and a Rawdon-Hall classical |

Thanks for the kind words Walter. Paul, I do have two gigs that week, but they are probably a hundred miles or so from where you'll be. I am playing at an event called Sand in the Streets in Kinston, N. C. on Thur. 6/25 at 6 P.M. and at the Buccaneer club in Greenville, N. C. on Fri. 6/26 at 9:30 P.M. Would be happy to see you if came to either. However, you might want to check out the Ice House in Selma, N. C. which is much closer and is a very steel friendly venue. I believe the band playing there on 6/26 has a steel player , but I'm not sure. _________________ LeGrande II, Nash. 112, Fender Twin Tone Master, Session 400, Harlow Dobro, R.Q.Jones Dobro |

Eric Strickland and the B sides are playing the City Tap in Pittsboro on Friday the 19th. I wish Paul was a week early it'll be a good show I'm sure. _________________ Zum SD-12 Black, Zum SD-12 Burly Elm Several B-Bender Tele's and a lot of other gear I can't play.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not sure yet how my free time in the evenings is going to work. Ollin has very kindly invited me to come and jam with his band during the week. I'm looking forward to doing that. |
