Here we have a 1957 Gretsch Chet Atkins Hollow Body 6120 in full Maple with that classic orange finish. The Chet Atkins Hollow Body is often hailed as the finest model of electric guitar to ever be produced by Gretsch, and with a legend like Chet claiming the model as his own you can be certain that that statement holds true. One of the biggest draws for the Chet Atkins Hollow Body is the sheer amount of versatility you can get out of it. | I was not aware the Filter Tron P/U were offered in '57 until 58. I was in Studio B with Chet in Sept 57 and Grady Martin was playing a protype that later became the Country Gent. The Trons were also the brain child of Ray Butts for the '58 release which I bought that year. |

My first PX6120 was a 59 just like this one. Unfortunately it was stolen. I replaced it with a 61 model.
The 59, like this one did not have the Patent number on the pickups (I think it had Patent Pending). The 61 had the Patent Number on the pickups. |

This guitar is actually a 1958 6120 ... the serial numbers starting with #265xx were the second batch built in 1958.
The Filterton pickups and also the Neo classic (thumbnail) fret markers were not introduced until 1958.
Check page 100 of Edward Balls Comprehensive book "Gretsch 6120 - The History of legendary guitar"
Beautiful example I must say -- probably worth every penny !!! :-}
