Check the players' biographies for the Denver Steel Guitar Show.
Chuck
Daniel Jones began playing pedal steel in the early 70s in the San Francisco Bay Area. In the Denver area, like Chuck Lettes, he has played with Lannie Garrett, and in the “Always… Patsy Cline” theater production. Daniel has always enjoyed exploring non-traditional styles for pedal steel, an interest he continues in the jazz direction with his quartet, Standard Deviations.
Chris Kennison is a Colorado native and lives in Ft. Collins, Colorado. He currently performs with the Barleen's Arizona Opry as their utility string player. Chris plays pedal steel, Dobro and guitar, and a number of other stringed instruments and is also a big fan of Hawaiian steel. He is on the Board of Directors of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association (HSGA).
Chuck Lettes is a featured writer for several steel guitar magazines, teacher, and has performed with many touring artists from Doug Kershaw to Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. He is the longtime sideman in Lannie Garrett's Patsy DeCline Show and is a recent inductee into the Nebraska Country Music Hall of Fame.
Bob Case has been playing steel guitar in bands since the early 1970s. He has worked with Billy Spears, Dusty Drapes and the Dusters, Lynn Morris, Junior Brown, and Doug Kershaw among others. Bob has played in two productions of “Always…Patsy Cline” in the Denver area and has played in Lannie Garrett’s Patsy DeCline Show.
Tom Broderick has been in the Denver, Colorado area for the past twenty five years. Playing guitar and pedal steel guitar, Tom has been involved with theater productions like “Always…Patsy Cline” at the Garner Galleria Theater and played several seasons with Lannie Garrett’s “Patsy DeCline Show.
Jeff Rady is from Denver, Colorado and has been on the Colorado music scene for 16 years, not only as pedal steel player, but as a guitarist, arranger, and guitar instructor at Swallow Hill Music. He has been a member of many Colorado staples like Casey James Prestwood and The Burning Angels, Strange Americans, and now Patrick Dethlefs.
Paul Carestia is a Colorado native and has been playing steel guitar since age 8. He would listen to the Grand Ole Opry and tell his parents "I want to play that steel guitar". By age 14 he was playing professionally. Now retired, he spends most of his time in Colorado and is currently performing with The Country Music Project based in Denver.
George Sypert started learning to play pedal steel in 1964 in North Africa at Wheel US Air Force Base. He started with a Fender 400 with 4 pedals and is still learning to play pedal steel in 2015.
Dave Barker was born and raised in Sheridan, Wyoming. He moved to Denver in 1999 to play music. He got tired of the dumb drummer jokes, so he picked up the pedal steel guitar about 4 years ago.
Howard “Happ” Palmer became a lifelong disciple of the pedal steel guitar in the early l970s. His love for country music and dance floors keeps him playing in honkytonks throughout Colorado. Howard currently plays pedal steel guitar and dobro for the Wild Road Band and Last Chance Texaco.
Chuck Hughes is known for his rockabilly trio, the Hillbilly Hellcats. He is a fan of, and plays, pre-1930s Hawaiian acoustic tricone style.
Rick Schmidt is a true musical force, playing pedal and non-pedal steel guitar, guitar, midi guitar, bass guitar, and keyboards as well as being an impressive vocalist. His long career as a musician also includes playing in the “warm up” band for many classic TV shows, notably Mork & Mindy, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley.
John Arnold is a feature writer for the Pedal Steel Guitar Association's monthly newsletter, a huge fan of country rock, especially the work of Buddy Cage. John plays steel with the Country Touch Band.
