I hope this is the correct Forum section...

Background – I am coming to C6th PSG after playing both 6 and 8 string non-pedal. I have also played a bit of piano and (prior to several surgeries on my left hand/wrist) quite a lot of fingerstyle 6-string guitar.

This course is written for C6th with a high “G”. My copedent use a “D” on top, but the course was fully useable for me. There were only 5 or 6 times when the “G” string was utilized and it was quite instructional for me to find the desired note somewhere else. Because it is a “Beginners” course only one KL was utilized and the “A” and “B” changes on 4 and 8 were omitted.

The provided written material was a highly quality publication. The printing quality was excellent and that made reading through the content quite enjoyable.

The DVD video and audio was also very nicely done. All of the camera angles worked well and just watching Mr. Jernigan’s technique was a “course” in and of itself.

The written material and the DVD could each be utilized individually, but together they were superb. Especially after I annotated the written material with a time mark where the material is found on the DVD. (I just have to be organized, and I don’t have the talent to work through the material non-stop.)

I really enjoyed this course. For a ‘hobbyist” such as I it is tremendous. I really like the fact that it was not just a collection of tabbed out “tunes”. I can take this material and use it as a basis for arranging tunes that I enjoy.

I highly recommend this course to anyone wishing to expand their vocabulary beyond E9. I also recommend it to those coming from non-pedal as Mr. Jernigan’s explanations of the knee and pedal use was very clear and easily understandable.

Also, the tuning material was very helpful if you've never dealt with that extra hardware under the guitar.

JMHO… YMMV...

I think Jernigan's C6 instruction is an under appreciated gold mine. The missin high G is easiest to replace with a C-C# raise on RKR on string 3. Coupled with pedal 5 , it gets you a full 6th chord with a 5 on top, three frets up. Let's you play most of the great Herby Wallace instruction as well.

I agree about Mr. J's course. It is great. I use BE's "new school" C6th copedent. It has the changes you suggest. Thanks for that tip and the reply.

I just love watching Doug play. In fact, I think every PSG who records anything (instructional material or not) should do video. I believe their sales would increase exponentially. I know I really enjoy watching the players perform and I'd be more than willing to pay extra for the honor of doing so.

As I said, just observing Mr. J's technique was a course in and of itself.

Anyway...

Thanks again for the tip.
