This morning, I took an amp into a guitar store for repair. I noticed an untagged lap steel on the counter. It was a used Georgeboards Stealth. I traded my Oahu Tonemaster and my monthly whiskey budget for it. I had to drive home (1hr 20 min. each way) to get the case for my Oahu to make the trade. It was worth it, even the running out of whiskey, soon, part. The Stealth has one big scratch and light scratches, throughout, but it still looks good. I am new to this, but this is the best sounding instrument I've played. I am only posting this out of happiness in the face of impending sobriety.

Nic, my guess is you'll be very glad you jumped on that. Looks like a fine axe. From one who has been through the exact same scenario, I'll suggest that a couple weeks of whiskey-less jamming will result in a joyful period of exploration, capped with a wonderful reunion of the "shot and the slide". Mark, so far, I couldn't be happier. I'm sure my bar will be restocked long before I acclimate to 8 strings. Currently, I'm pouring Bulleit rye. I do like Jameson's. For my rowdier company, I'll split a shot glass with Jameson's and Baileys dropped into a half glass of Guiness. |

Also I should say, I always hear of others falling into these deals, but I'm still shocked it was my turn. Without this forum, I wouldn't have known about the Oahu or the Stealth. I hope the experienced steel players don't forget the treasure they've left for beginners in the archives and the value of archives to come. Thanks. |

Ohhhhh you lucky dog! I think that Stealth has the pickup designed by George and Lindy Fralin ...great tone... much better than an Alumnitone George put on some of his steels ...to my ears anyway. But different folks / different strokes! As George rightfully says, "Ya gotta love it" ...and I'm sure you will. _________________ Aloha,

Denny, as far as I know, it is the Lindy Fralin pickup. I hope I don't get to missing the Oahu. I do miss the island of Oahu, so I hope you're enjoying it. |

Yea Nick, I feel pretty sure it's a George / Linday P'up, but I didn't / don't want to sound absolutely sure and cause anyone to believe something that might not be true. When Ricky Davis got his GB D8 Console, he was stoked and couldn't say enough good about it, including the pickups, and rightfully so, ...and Ricky was making his 8 string consoles at that time! I've had a couple of occasions to play George's EH style lap steels, and was stoked as well.
Yessir, Oahu has been my saving grace and blessing for 34 years now; Makes it a lot easier to deal with life's ups and downs, ...particularly over the last 7 years fighting the god-awful / deliberately disfunctional Veterans Administration (deeply embedded, sorry-a_ _, deceitful, M.I.C. chicken hawks at the top guarding the $$$$$ henhouse regardless of how much the white house team tries to wring their necks). Every morning I take my coffee and cigs out onto my 2nd floor lanai, take in the ocean at the back yard, take in the mountains a couple miles from the front yard, take in the palm trees and tropical plants and their aromas, and thank God for being so expert and generous.
I look forward to hearing your reports from playing yer beautiful new black magic woman. Very Best Wishes to you. _________________ Aloha,
