What's the story with the white or black fretboards on Sho~Buds.
Is it that they used one or other on different periods of production or was it an option that was ordered with the guitar?
Thanks |

I believe that the Baldwin era 'Crossover' models came from the factory equipped with white fretboards, not certain if others had. White reproduction fretboards appear to be a popular replacement item however, Tom Bradshaw sells them if I recall and they are offered as an option when ordering a new Show Pro guitar. |

My Baldwin Era 1967 S-10, 6(in the middle) and 2, came with a black board. It has a white one now after restoration,

Both of my Sho-Bud Crossovers, and my Fender/Sho-Bud hybrid S10, came with black fingerboards. I personally prefer the black ones to white ones. |

White ones are great on a dark stage. |

If you wanted to, you could bring out the painted frets on a black fingerboard with fluorescent paint. But maybe the best idea would be perspex fingerboards illuminated from underneath. I've been thinking about this idea for a long time. |

My problem with white fretboards: shadows.
In a brightly lit room, they're great looking and no problem whatsoever. However, in a concert hall situation... dark room and overhead par can lights hitting the stage... string shadows make the fretboard appear as though there's 20 strings per neck. Rather disconcerting to me, so I go with black.
I also don't care for colored fret markers, except on Emmons guitars and Sho-Buds. But that's for another thread. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |
