Here's a picture of my Zumsteel Keyless. As far as I know, this is the only keyless that was designed and built by Bruce Z. himself. And, after he completed this guitar he swore he would never build another because of the labor involved in machining the keyless tuning system he designed for this project. I begged Bruce for years (after getting this guitar) to build me a D10 but he was adamant. At least I got an original keyless from the master!

Two inches over standard, Jeff. same as my Carter and Emmons.
I suspect it's an optical illusion due to the shorter body length. |

Wow, a keyless Zum, didn't know there was such an animal. Very nice Tommy.
I converted a D-10 Zum to keyless one time years ago. The keyless tuners I had fit the same holes as the original or I wouldn't have done it. Made it play even better and didn't effect the tone as far as I could tell. It also left room at end of tuner to sit your beer, LOL.
I later put original keyheads back on.

The blue ZUM belongs to Jay Jessup. It was shortened by 5.104" and the keyless tuning system added.

My 1994 Schild. Today's Schilds have a shorter tuning head while keeping the full length of the body to accommodate a "0" pedal.

ME---Do a search for Z chop job if you want more info in it as it sits in the that pic. I played it that way for about 5 years but recently had Paul Redmond convert it to extended E9 with an alumitone pup on it.
