Good deal? it was a steal! I would think the value is probably closer to $3400 if complete and undamaged! But the value of anything is what people are willing to pay for it! _________________ Die with Memories. Not Dreams.

my '82 changer is just like that one. it came with the solid endblocks but bruce sent blocks tapped for splits soon after. should be a great steel. probably mid '80sish. or later, as it has the pearl inlay which i don't think was offered at first. |

The endblocks can be removed and tapped easily enough. That wouldn't stop me from buying it. A drill press (and ten minutes), a ruler, a Sharpie, and a tap and die set (and an hour or so) and you're done. If you don't have a drill press, Mark the the holes with the Sharpie and a machine shop should be able to knock it out in minutes.
Bruce would probably be willing to do it for not a lot of money. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I looked at those pictures pretty carefully, and I didn't see a sufficiently direct shot - e.g., from the side of the changer - to tell for certain if it's 3up/2down or 3up/3down. The changer-end undercarriage closeup shot does sort of look like 3/2, but I'm not sure. If I was interested in this guitar, I'd ask for some more closeup shots, especially a direct side-on shot at the changer end.
Another thing - looking again at that changer-end undercarriage closeup, you'll see that the bellcranks are of the later type, not the comb type prevalent on pre-circa-'98 guitars. I have a '94 D10 and an '01 U12, and the bellcranks/rods look more like my '01. So I suppose it's possible that this is an older guitar with updated undercarriage parts. Note that there are some empty screw-holes on the underbelly. In fact, I've been thinking about moving to the later rods/bellcranks on my D10.
I have played a bunch of Zums, and I have yet to play one that didn't play and sound great. This looks like a nice guitar. |

I've got a late modle 1994 and a 2006 and I prefer the tone and character of the '94 the best. I wish the '94 looked like the '06.
I wouldn't take a chance on changing the tonality of my '94 by upgrading the undercarriage.
Besides with the comb type cams you don't have to mess with those washers and clips..

It went for just under $3500.00 plus shipping.
When were the square pedals replaced with the offsets that I have on my 06?

Wow, that's pretty impressive. Worth every penny.
As to the pedal design change, Bruce told me it was only because he could no longer get the "top loader" type carburetor linkage connectors for the pedal rods, so he redesigned the pedals to would work with the side loader type that he could get. _________________ Drew Pierce

I personally think $ 3500 for a used S-10 is just ridiculous but that's just me I guess.
Sorry, just noticed it's a S-12, still too much. _________________ Henry Matthews

It's possible that he told me he couldn't get GOOD ones any more and the failure rate was too high on the ones he was getting. In any event, that was the reason for the pedal design change. _________________ Drew Pierce

A good indicator of what the market is. I have not seen many for sale. Anybody know how many S-12 Zum's were built? _________________ Die with Memories. Not Dreams.
