| More inspiration for me when I was learning. The Inspirations live album A Night Of Inspiration with Roger Fortner on lead guitar and Dale Jones playing his Sho-Bud. Then later seeing Dale play on stage with the Hemphills before he stopped playing the steel and moved over to the Strat. Ronnie Moore with the Hinsons. Especially on the live album From Out of the West They Came. I wore out a cassette trying to copy all of his licks. The Happy Goodman Family's album Wanted Live. That was Jack Smith, correct? And then the live album the Happy Goodman family cut in Huntsville, AL. Featured Lloyd Green. Another album I wore out. Johnny Cox with the Singing Rambos. More great playing. Jerry and the Singing Goffs recordings using either Doug Jernigan or Russell Easter Jr on steel. On and on. I will miss many on this list. The albums Jimmy Davis cut for Word that featured Hal Rugg and John Hughey. Scott Sanders with the later Hinson shows. Sonny Garrish on so many southern gospel recordings I bought back in the 70's and 80's. I usually bought records at the record store based upon the musician credits. I never did like it when they put the credits on the liner page. |

| Man I am so glad that you listed these great players. I grew up listening to all these artists that you mentioned but never knew who the players were. We had no TV so we listened to southern gospel music on the radio. I have a live cd of the Hinson's from the 70's that I like to play along with. Thanks again don |

I forgot the name of the player on the earlier Hemphills records. Was it Glen Paul? I remember his unique kick-off to a Consider The Lilies.
My buddy, Jerry Newberry, was close friends with Ronnie Moore and helped me get started down the right path. Another steel picking buddy, Onis Parks, was related to Vic Lawson and they had worked out several of the licks Lloyd played on Happy Goodman albums. I believe right around that time Vic was on the road with the Gold City Quartet. |

Then there was Steve "Rabbit" Easter with the Happy Goodmans, The Nelons and The Easters. Stewart Stanley played with The Days and New Hinsons. Gary "Beaver" Dillard with The Kingsmen. Gary Dee played for The Goodmans. What about Ira Johnson with The Hinsons? Those of us in Southern Gospel music continue to be inspired by these great steel players!
By the way, the intro on "Consider the Lilies" was crafted by Doyle Grisham, if memory serves me correctly.

Man, that was good music back when the Hinsons and Goodmans and Hemphills were going strong. Kenny Hinson and Rusty Goodman were awesome. They both left us way too early.
Candy Hemphill was, I thought, the most beautiful girl in world back then. |

| This is where I spent my early years (70s & 80s). Playing bass guitar with the Rebels Quartet, Glory Road and a few others. Shared the stage many a night with most of those great musicians. Good times on and off the stage. |

| Yeah there will never be another Kenny Hinson. I heard that George Jones once said that Kenny was the best singer to step on stage.if anyone out there has never heard this group or any of the other's mentioned, then you should check them out. Oh yeah there is also some great steel playing. |

| I too wore some of those albums out. Jack Smith did play on the Goodmans "Wanted Live" album at the ripe ole age of 16. Pretty good picking for a young man. |

| I too, was a big fan of southern gospel in the 1960s and 70s. I still have my lps about 200 of them from that era. Can't forget Dwayne Friend. I asked him who played on his lps. Lloyd Green did the "Code Blue", Jeff Newman on "Just Pickin" Dwayne also mentioned using Curly Chalker too. Also there are 2 lps from Jimmy Swaggart "Touching Jesus" and "Hallelujah" that had pedal steel-breaks and intro and a great player. I never did know who played on JS but would love to find out. |

| Sure would like to see you again sometime, been a long time. No music around here anymore. I played with a gospel group, "Just In Time" for a long time but broke up due to the bass man had a hip replacement then the buggy going around !!! Jerry Roller passed, Jerry Newberry moved up North, Prim Ar. and Jerry Knapper moved to Florida.. |

| Hey JR. Good to hear from you, been a long time. Nothing going on around here either. One guy here that's going to start a little show art Wagon Wheel cafe.
