Smoking! Funky!

Wow. Play THIS for people who think a pedal steel is only a "Country instrument".

A number of years back, I was playing at The Chicago Blues Festival with Catherine Russell. She's pretty much Harlem royalty and did a cool swing album that I was fortunate to play on. We got done with our set and a young African-American gentleman comes up to me and asks "How do you like your Franklin?" I thought I was the only steel player at Blues Fest and what do you know it was Roosevelt Collier and he was playing with the Lee Boys from Florida and next on the stage. I wasn't familiar with Roosevelt at the time. After he explained that he was playing a Carter steel and he liked it, I waited around to hear him play. I had no idea what I was in for. He was the tightest, funkiest sacred steel funk soul steel player I'd ever seen. The band was great and Roosevelt was the star. So humble and unassuming but what a great live player!
