Mids full up or full down, or the presence full down or the bass flat etc etc. Or a combination of any of the above and lots more. SOMETHING GOOD MIGHT HAPPEN. To many times players get locked into the "stock" settings and are afraid to vary from that. STOP IT.

I can not tell you how many steelers I run across that hate their amp. They buy another only to discover they don't like it either. LET'S ADJUST A KNOB OR TWO OR THREE. THEY GO UP AND DOWN AS WELL.

Having said that:
Speakers will make a difference.
Pickups will make a difference.
Patch cords will make a difference. BUT FIRST THINGS FIRST.

What sounds good in your room will not sound the same at the gig. BUT learn what the knobs do so you are not in a panic at the gig trying to make adjustments.

Over time, I have been using less bass and dialing it back as it lets the treble, presence and midrange have more focus. The mid control can also be your friend as decreasing it lets the presence be more focused without adding presence.

Works for me but YMMV.....

Larry, some time ago I put a step-by-step method for dialing in a Peavey-style tone stack. http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=223731
