Wooookay...

Looking at my '71 fatback D-10, I noticed the plastic bobbins are a bit different than later guitars.

The Bolton I had some years ago, the edges of the bobbins were all black. Later models used a plastic sandwich that started black on the top, then white, black, white and black on the bottom.

Easy, huh? -L-

Well on my guitar the sandwich is two THIN lines of white with a thicker black line in the center of the bobbin. On later ones, or different ones, don't know what years, it is opposite where the white layers are thicker and the black center layer is thinner.

Now go look at the edge of your pickup bobbins and cogitate on the greatness of all things push-pull...

On my Emmonses...1964 and 1965 plastic is all black. On late 1965 and 1966 bobin plastic is black-white-black. Thereafter a multi layered black-white-black-white-black etc. Also, serial number 10 (1964) has the magnet pole pieces at a diagonal.
