| I have a J Maskis Jazzmaster. The guitar is very nice but more P-90 sounding than single coil. Any suggestions for a single coil sounding upgrade? |

I have not used any of these Jazzmaster pickups, but I have been quite satisfied with other pickups, electric supplies and so on that I have purchased from this business over the years.

Not to be nitpicking, but P-90 pickups are single coil.
If you want something that sounds more like a Tele or Strat pickup, I'd steer clear of the "overwound" options on that page.
The much wider and shallower shape of the Jazzmaster coil may make it hard to get the brighter Fender type sound.
Lindy Fralin says they offer Jazzmaster pickups wound "from 6K to 10k". Maybe pickups at the low end of that range might fill the bill.

Thanks Brint, I was aware that P90 pups are single coil but on the darker side. Looking for middle Strat or Tele bridge vibe.

not going to happen. as stated above...the reason the jazzmaster has its sound is the thin wide bobbin. you have to have a taller bobbin with less width. the 6K fralins will be about as close as you will get. |

I looked at the Failing pups and will probably go with them. Joe Braden also has a set but super expensive at $324.00 and more than likely too hot.
Nice guitar with a tunamatic type bridge and slim neck. Worth the pup upgrade. |

Interesting vibe from The Pickup Wizard pups. Will listen to sound samples with ear phones.

My gosh, I just noticed that those sound clips were made on a pine chambered body with maple top Jazzmaster, which to me would render them pretty much useless as an example of any normal alder Jazzmaster tone.
Oh well, whatever...just another option. His pickups get good reviews from the geeks at Offset Guitars (a site dedicated mostly to Jazzmasters, Jaguars, and Mustangs). |
