Tonight I went to watch a friend of mine play jazz guitar and he used Electro Voice speakers and an Acoustic Image amp...wow, he had a wonderful sound, course he is a great pro player. But he swears by the EV speakers and really likes his Acoustic Image Amp also. Just curious if anyone uses either or both for their steel ? The speaker is about $550 and the acoustic image amp is around $1,000. Before I spend that kind of money, I would like to know more. Thanks in advance for any info.

I've used the old EV 15" speakers. I like them a bunch.
My fiddle player buddy has an acoustic image amp head. It's really good for fiddle, but I didn't dig it when I tried it with my steel. The midrange didn't have enough control and the bottom end was brittle/non existent.

See if you can try one before you buy. They may have gotten better.
They are nice and light!

I am a big fan of the EV12L and EV15L speakers. There have been my favorites since the early 80's. Heavy, but great sounding and bullet proof.

I have them in Music Man amps and also in my rack setup.

I love EV12L's, especially the old coffee can type. Not a lot of fun to lift though. I tried an acoustic image amp on several occasions and didn't like it at all, maybe they've gotten better...
