Hi!
I recently bought a MSA Semi classic pedal from Dan at sidestreetsteel.com, and it’s a great guitar, but I this is my first time with this type of changer (push/pull?), and I haven’t really figured out an easy way to tune the levers and pedals (My previous psg was a carter starter and it was another type of changer) Does anybody have a smart approach to tune this guitar… It’s a 4px2k S-10 and it looks just like this MSA classic at ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=623&item=3734353155&rd=1 &ssPageName=WDVW but mine is wooden finish, has chrome on all metal parts, and is called “semi classic”.. It has a white single-coil pickup that’s not actually attached to the body. (It sounds great, but is it supposed to be loose?)
Maybe someone has a link to a manual for these guitars , or other info on MSA psg’s?
Appreciate all info I can get on these guitars!

Hi John
It’s actually a Push/Pull, and does not have tuning rods sticking out behind the the changer like the carter starter. I have not found pictures of similar on the web either, so I guess I got a rare one.. I will try to locate the serial number tonight, and try to date it..
Maybe Dan (seller) can confirm that it’s a push/pull design , and not the modern like the carter (all pull?) Or maybe forumite Reece Anderson from MSA could comment this guitar…?

check with some of the old marlen p/p owners it's really close to that changer and they probably can help you out...i would recomend emailing ricky davis...he knows alot about those marlen changers

Sounds like a Pull-Release mechanism. Try the tuning explanation in the MSA Sidekick owners manual as a basis for tuning.

Thanks John. I guess you’re right about the pull/release system. I did not know there was such a thing.. Do you know any advantages or disadvantages with this system compared to push/pull and all pull systems (sound/tuning?) Is it strictly a student/beginner system, or does any pro steels have this system?
I also love that you have put out the old manuals on your website!

Marlens, older pro steels (pre 1964), and student models are the only ones I've ever seen using this system. It works well for simpler setups.

| I did not know that MSA made a push pull model single guitar in a classic, I thought that MSA only used all pulls on their classics. Maybe Reece Anderson can tell us if push pulls were made. steveb. |
