I remember buying this album because of the steel solo on this record. I spent many years learning it and have not played it in 20 years!
It was amazing how fast, clean and exact Paul Franklin played this about 35 years back!
To have the depth of his approach to this tune was and is amazing to me.
Not because it was fast but the hidden underline he had to the tempo change and his theory to choose the notes he played.

Yeah, Paul's solo is great. But what completely blew my mind at the time was a reminder about what a truly great guitar player Jerry was. I mean, I always knew he was great, but this was ridiculous. And after all the Smokey and the Bandit stuff, to hear him just lay it down. Breathtaking.
Of course, I'm a gittar player, and most of us that had any clue never quite got over "The Claw". The man was a force of nature. |
