I've just purchased a couple of instruments, so I'm letting go a couple others to recoup a few dollars. I like both these steels, but I have so many others that I might as well let them go.
First up is a Vega from around 1937-9. It has a wooden body with a chrome-plated brass cover over the body, which helps the sustain and looks darn cool to boot. The pickup is Vega's own true humbucker, which sounds fantastic. There's a little scratchiness in the controls, but everything works as it should and all parts are original. There are some dings and loss of chrome plate on the hand rests, but overall it's in good shape for its age. It does not have a case, but I will pack very securely.
Withdrawn from sale - I'm keeping this one.
Second is an Epiphone Electar Model M 7-string from 1936. This is one of the very first Model Ms, with a plain nickel plate instead of the etched and anodized aluminum that most of them bear. It also has a horseshoe pickup instead of the adjustable-pole unit introduced in 1937. The sound is a bit mellower than a Rickenbacker, partly due to the pickup and partly because of the wood body with the aluminum cap. It has good sustain, certainly better than the later Zephyrs without the aluminum cap. Much of the nickel plate has worn off (it's still present under the strings, which is why it's a slightly different color there) and there are nicks and dings, but nothing major. It has one replaced tuner, and a couple of other tuners have some replacement parts. Otherwise, everything looks to be original and functioning correctly. It comes with a non-original hard case which looks like a Fender from the '60s or '70s.
SOLD.
