I am looking for some input on the copedent for a 4p/6k SD-10 E9 tuning, specifically what to do with the 6th knee lever.
Here is what I have so far
_________LKL1___LKL2____LKV____LKR_____P1_____P2_____P3_____P4______RKL______RKR_____
1__F#___-CMP___________________________++G#_______________________________________________
2__D#____________--C#____________________+E____________________-D_________________-D_______
3__G#___________________________________________________+A_____-G__________________________
4__E______+F____________++F#___________________________________________-D#_________________
5__B_____________________________-A#____________++C#_______________________________________
6__G#___________________________________________________+A_____-G__________________________
7__F#___________________________________++G#_____________________________________+G________
8__E______+F___________++F#____________________________________________-D#_________________
9__D______________________________________________________________________________-C#_______
10_B_____________________________-A#____________++C#_______________________________________
My main question is whether there is something useful to combine with the 6th knee lever I show above, LKL2, D#-C#. I hate half stops, which is why I am not using RKR to go D#-D-C#.
things to note:
-Home position (pedals AB)is pedals 2 and 3
-I purposely don't have a C pedal, I prefer the G#-G change I have shown on pedal 4 in its place. I can also pedals 2,3 plus LKV for the C pedal change.
-pedal 1 is the F#-G# change that is becoming near standard
-everything else is pretty normal
I wanted to get the D#-C# on the copedent for the unisons and also the pentatonic scale when combined with E-D# lever, but maybe others will see something I am missing.

I'd put the Franklin pedal 0 on P1
and put the P1 G# E changes on a lever.
I see there is no C pedal.
But I do like what you have here.
I have your P4 minor 7 on a lever,
because you can change from AB down to a minor much faster.
The s2 s9 C#s could be easily gotten with 2 half stops on RKR as well as 2 D's.
Like RIcky Davis just put on his LDG.
I am not really sure about your LKV??
Is that sort of part of a split C Pedal?
I find the B to Bb there very usefull with AB down.
I am sure Carl D. will have some interesting comments shortly.[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 22 June 2004 at 12:58 PM.] |

Looks a lot like mine.
I like having the 9th string lower on the C# lever, so that it doesn't interact with the F# to G change. Also, I often want both the 2nd and 9th strings to be C# when my E's are lowered.

FWIW, Scott, I would swap P1 and P4 if I were you. As you have it now, P3 and P4 pretty much cancel each other out. [This message was edited by Bobby Lee on 22 June 2004 at 02:46 PM.] |

Since you might not be able to play both LKL's at the same time one idea might be to lower the 7th string F# to F along with 2nd string Eb-C#. The 9th string can also be lowered to C# at the same time.
Beatiful 9th voicing available w RKL E's to Eb at the same time.

Thanks for the ideas, I am getting specs together for purchasing another steel, something smaller, lighter, faster to set up than my D-10 Sierra Session.
No need to mention brands I am looking at, we don't need this to turn into a "my steel can beat up your steel" thread. |

I had a Fessy SD-10 w/ 4 + 6, the 4th pedal lowered the 5th and 6th strings a whole tone, and the 6th knee lowered both G#>G.
