We played two Gaither songs:
"He Touched Me" and "There's Something About That Name".
They're both in our church hymnal.
No ricky-ticky contemporary stuff for me. |

I played steel at our new church for the first and last time last weekend. Contemporary Christian music. The band was incredibly young. Sound man couldn't get the mic working and yelled up "We can't get the keyboard, (me) I yelled back "not a keyboard, this is an electric ironing board" No one knew I was being sarcastic. They got it going but they mixed me out pretty much all the way. My wife said my face said I was having no fun. Ron

Sounds like a bad experience, too bad.
I love the old hymns and gospel songs. Every one of those are like a three minute sermon.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HYMNS AND PRAISE CHORUSES
An old Minnesota farmer went to the city one weekend and attended the big city church. He came home and his wife asked him how it was.
"Well," sid the farmer, "It was pretty good. They did something different, however, They sang praise choruses instead of hymns."
"Praise choruses," said his wife, "What are those?"
"Oh, they're okay. They're sort of like hymns, only different," said the farmer.
"Well, what's the difference?", asked the wife,
The farmer said, "Well it's like this. If I were to say to you, "Martha, the cows are in the corn.'well that would be a hymn. If on the other hand I was to say to you, 'Martha, Martha, Martha, Oh Martha, MARTHA, MARTHA, the cows, the big cows, the brown cows, the black cows, the white cows, the black and white cows, the COWS, COWS, COWS, are in the corn, are in the corn, are in the corn, are in the corn, are in the corn, are in the corn, are in the corn,' well, that would be a praise chorus." |

I play steel on a semi-regular basis at my church. Mostly modern P&W, but on occasion they turn us loose with a lineup like this coming Sunday:

Hi Erv!
You mean you didn't record any of them to playback and give us a taste of what obviously was a beautiful good praise service??? I myself was a little disappointed! Oh well, I know the Lord was with all of you there. God bless!
