Does anybody know much about these or play one? I can't find much info on them and wondered roughly when they were made and what level of quality to expect from one.

Matt,
You will find this guitar plays and sounds great, top quality, as all Sierras are...I'm thinking it's built in the 80's

Thanks David. Are these guitars mechanically good as a rule (I know a lot depends on the condition of the individual instrument)? Just wondered as Sierra are no longer in business and I don't want to buy something which will prove difficult to maintain.

I have one from 1978 and it's a wonderful guitar. Very good mechanically, and it sounds real nice.

It's sort of hard to change the copedent, due to the round cross shafts and a center support. Last time I had Tom Bradshaw do it for me. He did a great job, and even added a vertical lever.

Thanks Bobby, I presumed they'd be sound as most people seem to speak of Sierras in glowing terms. If I do get one it'll be my first 12 string so I think it'll take quite a while before I've explored enough to need to change the copedent.

Warning: they're heavy. Mine's about 90 lbs. in the case.

Ditto that b0b..My Sierra 'Olympic' was very sturdy, reliable and built like a tank and weighed a little like one..but so many 'Cool' features such as the Eb lever lock and interchangeable pick-up slot not to mention the fold out legs..Nice Horn.
