If I am trying to get an accurate measurement of the output of my pickups, will taking the reading by putting a 6" George L cable into my output jack and measuring the resistance from the plug at the end of the cable be reliable? I'm not sure how much added resistance there is between the end of the plug and the pickup, or is it so small that it doesn't matter?

For measuring of DC-resistance the cable won't matter at all. |

Thanks George. Will anything else that is between the cable and the pickup matter? |

Cannot think of anything, unless there is a switching arrangement that adds in a capacitor or something. Just make sure the jack-connector is clean and makes good contact. |

I am curious as to why you want to measure resistance through the PU though. You think it is broken or something?
I ask because unless your measurements are very far off from what you would expect - indicating a failure, DC-resistance in itself doesn't tell much. |

It is a Emmons D-10, so there is a pickup selector switch and a tone knob with a on/off switch. I don't know if when I am taking the measurement if I am going thru any of this. |

Select the PU you want to measure, and turn the tone knob switch to "off". Then you will measure only the PU. |
