Damir the day this pic was taken I stripped it all the way down to bear cabinet replaced what parts needed replacing polished and buffed all shiny pieces and re polished the cabinet...That ole girl played herself it was so smooth... Incredible tone however I did replace the super sustain pickups with George Ls' she was a great girl _________________ S12 MSA Classic Nashville 400 with fox mods amp 1 volume pedal 1 Lil Izzy and 3 cords |

yes, I love MSA, great guitars...maybe only thing I would change on this one would be installing 705 pickups, but not because original ones don't sound good, but because I'm curious about 705s... _________________ www.steelguitarsonline.com |

on my last couple Promats I used Jerry Wallace TT pickups, and they sounded awesome...was wandering about those 705s, everyone is praising them for a great tone... _________________ www.steelguitarsonline.com |

I had an MSA almost identical to yours Damir that I took apart and cleaned the changer and all, couple years ago . Guitar was dirty but in good shape. When I got it back together, she played and sounded like a million bucks. These are way under rated guitars. I think they are one of the best around. I've always heard that MSA's had a darker tone but this one didn't, it had crystal clear highs just like my push pull. It did have a 705 on E9th but I replaced it with an original just to match C6th and I think the original pickup sounds better, JMO. I had the original pickup someone had given me years ago that matched. The 705 lacked the crispy highs that I like. These are great sounding and playing guitars. _________________ Henry Matthews

really? that is what I'm looking to get from the pickup tho, maybe those 705s are not for me, and maybe I should stay with Jerry Wallace TT single coils...??? _________________ www.steelguitarsonline.com |

Yep, opinions may vary but I also had 705's on my Rains which I took off and put 710's which were much better to my ears. _________________ Henry Matthews

so far my favorite pickups are Jerrys True Tones, they have clear and bright tone, I had them on my Promats, and on my Encore, it sounded great... _________________ www.steelguitarsonline.com |

I used to run through all kinds of effects, but then I got my Promat, and used only onboard reverb in my Webb 614, and tone I would get was amazing, so I just don't care or need anything else, I may add a touch of delay eventually, but right now I'm not worried about it... _________________ www.steelguitarsonline.com |

I purchased and played a brand new formica MSA D-10 about 1972. I bought it because it was the only steel at the time besides the Emmons push pull which I couldn't afford that had excellent smooth mechanics. However I made money with it 6 nights a week but the sound paled in comparison to it's Sho-Bud and Emmons competitors in my opinion. However just last week I took in a mica S-12 MSA on a trade along with a loaded MSA D-12 lacquer.
The mica MSA blew the MSA lacquer away in the tone department so here is my observations. First one I've ever heard in an old mica MSA was the George L pentad 5 way pickup. It could go all the way from bassy to Sho-Bud mid punch to Emmons brilliance to Fender single coil cable pull screechy highs and everything in between. It really changed my opinion of the MSA mica guitars. The lacquer
model still had the rather dull sounding super sustains. A decent sound for jazz but a one trick pony. I sold that mica MSA with the pentad to Junior Knight the next day which was 3 days ago. MSA owners might want to check out the Pentad 5 way's it really turns those old formica's into a new machine. Mechanically there has been none more durable than those old MSA's. The Pentad might breath new life into these classic guitars! |

Damir, I have BL 705's on my 79 MSA D10 Classic XL. I love them on this guitar. I had them on an S-10 years ago and the first thing I did when I bought the D-10 was to put the 705's on. I recently put 710's on my D-10 Emmons LeGrande also. Awesome pick ups. _________________ EMMONS LASHLEY LEGRANDE D-10, 95 DOBRO, PEAVEY SESSION 400, NASHVILLE 400, Session 2000, PEAVEY TUBEFEX, HILTON & GOODRICH PEDALS |
