I will be playing on a country music festival tonight and tomorrow at El Rancho Los Montesinos Spain and there are no other steel players on the show, playing with Steff Neversplus Alex T from Spain.Steff is a Nashville recording star. Shows how hard it is to get steel players for road work .sign of the times..

No it shows how expensive airfare is.
Plenty of players here in the US that would play a gig like that if there was actual money in it but high ticket prices plus careless baggage handlers make us think twice.

Last week played at a classic country evening with 3 performers. Would you believe that one other act had a steel player. It's been 35 years since I've ran into that!

John, nothing unusual there, as you are all too aware of the situation here in UK is where clubs are hiring "bands" , and I use that word loosely, consisting of two or at most three members often playing or miming to backing tracks, they can be seen at major events, on TV shows, and people actually pay money to see them, meanwhile the good LIVE bands get little or no work, this is one of the main reasons I have retired, fed up watching these muppets, and I make no apology to these people, many with little or no talent, they are ruining live music and making it very difficult for young players to come through. Sad

No shortage live country bands here in Spain, but only a few steel players, the top of the bill and second on the bill both asked me to join them, Alex T is a pure country band, Steff Nevers is one of the top pickers in the world rated by Breat Mason, check him out on YouTube.

John,
The situation in the states is the same as Spain. There does seem to be a shortage of steel players that play on a professional level that have open minds and are willing to tour.

Especially for younger bands coming up that don't have consistent budgets yet.
